I am honoured to be asked to teach yoga at the Lighting the Fire conference (May 11-13th, 2016, Winnipeg) hosted by the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre. As a gathering for discussing approaches to Indigenous education, honouring First Nation culture, and ensuring student success, a piece of that puzzle is drawing attention to the self-care of educators and leaders. Learning to take care of ourselves is the first step to learning how to take care of others, and yoga or any other awareness practice can play a pivotal role in cultivating physical, mental and spiritual health. Maybe I will see you there!

Going deeper into practice?
If you are interested in diving deeper into your yoga practice, a teacher training can offer more insight into the various aspects of yoga. There is always more to learn! David Quiring and I will be guest-teaching in two teacher trainings this summer. Check out:

A Yoga Alliance-certified 200-hour training in Morden, MB. This training began in November 2015 and is being offered in 10 weekend modules. David and I will be leading a Kirtan/chanting workshop in July.
Welcome spring with a kirtan!
Spring is a wonderful time for new beginnings: as the earth thaws and reawakens, it is a great opportunity to shed old skins and make room for something fresh. Clean out the proverbial closet by joining us for a kirtan at 3-1200 Portage Ave, on Friday April 22nd (7:00-8:45 pm, $25). This is where we recorded our first live kirtan album (download it here!), so we are excited to be back in this space again. There is free parking on the street, and if you like, you can pre-register with Bahram (our lovely host). Hope to see you there!
Ayurvedic Cleanse!
Spring is just around the corner – and with a change in seasons, it is an ideal time to inspire change in one’s body and mind. Join Adrienne for an Ayurvedic Diet Cleanse workshop (Sunday April 3rd, 3-5 pm, $50, Yoga Public) and learn about Ayurveda, a 5000-year-old tradition of healing. Learn how to:
– apply the fundamental principles of Ayurveda through a 12-day cleanse,
– discover diet and lifestyle practices suitable for your unique physical and mental needs,
– cultivate deeper self-awareness and harmony, and
– detoxify the body, refresh the mind and reawaken the spirit!
During the cleanse, Adrienne will host a blog for practitioners to receive daily updates of recipes, philosophy and encouragement. No previous knowledge of Ayurveda is required to participate. Register at Yoga Public (280 Fort St, 204 947 9642, www.yogapublic.com).
