Two in-person yoga sessions at Sport Manitoba starting March 19

Please join me in-person on Sundays starting March 19 at Sport Manitoba Fitness Centre for the spring editions of our six-week yoga sessions!

There are two types of class to choose from; while each session will have different focuses, they will both have an emphasis on cultivating functional movement that supports our everyday living. As we step into spring, let’s create strength and space in ourselves to fully embrace this season of regeneration.

Space is pretty limited so sign up soon! There is a discount for folks who are already Fitness Centre members. Please see below for more details.

YOGA FOR STRENGTH
Sundays Mar 19 – Apr 23, 11-12 noon

6 week session
$115 (non-members) / $95 (members)

This session will focus on building stability and endurance (mental / physical) through our yoga practice. Holding a plank pose isn’t just about muscular strength; it’s about showing ourselves the strength of our determination, and learning how to cheer ourselves on.

As always, I’ll offer modifications for postures so that you can find a version of the practice that suits you best.

YOGA FOR MOBILITY
Sundays Mar 19 – Apr 23, 12:30-1:30 pm

6 week session
$115 (non-members) / $95 (members)

This session will focus on maintaining / increasing range of motion so that we can feel more open in our bodies. This is a great practice for those of us wanting to recover / prevent further injury, or simply wanting to be a better mover.

I offer options to dial up / down the intensity so that you can make the practice work for your needs. Sometimes taking a step back is the more challenging choice; sometimes taking baby steps is just the right fit. Learning to adjust the practice to suit you is a key component to self-stewardship.

If you have any questions, check out this list of FAQs, or feel free to send me a message here. If you want to contact Sport Manitoba directly, you can do so here.

March livestream yoga session – starts Mar 6

Life can sometimes feel like a whirlwind, with us spinning like dervishes – perhaps sometimes due to ecstasy, but oftentimes due to chaotic unfocus and unrelenting craving.

The antidote? To actively practise non-action. We choose to sit down in the centre of the tornado, grounding ourselves in curious observation and gentle compassion. We disrupt the patterns of doing, fixing, arranging and controlling and see what opens up for us.

This is not apathy, nor is it rest (though there will be savasana). Tolerating discomfort takes sustained effort and discipline. With practice, we get stronger in our non-doing. And in that journey, the best starting point is exactly where we are right now.

THE ACTION OF NON-ACTION: YIN & YANG YOGA
Mondays 5:30-6:30 pm CT

A new livestream session – BREATHWORK 101 starts Wed Feb 15!

It is easy to take the breath for granted: it happens automatically, plus we are quite busy tackling other challenges in life, thank you very much. At the same time, it is a powerful tool – if we so choose to explore its benefits. By learning how to properly breathe, we can gain an accessible method to modulate our stress levels, manage pain and discomfort, boost recovery and our ability to rest, and even improve our posture.

Each week’s class will build on the last. We will:

  • Cover the basics of human anatomy pertaining to breath i.e. get acquainted with our “equipment”
  • Learn different breathwork practices that are simple and effective
  • Talk about how to set up a home practice so that you can continue your journey
  • Definitely cultivate a deeper respect and appreciation of the human body’s beautiful intelligence.

All you’ll need for this practice is a yoga mat, a blanket, and a chair. If you happen to have a meditation cushion or yoga block, please have those handy as well. While most of practice will be done seated or lying down, there will also be some occasional gentle movement.
