As we enter August, we might react to feeling the setting of summer’s sun. In anticipating the future, we can disrupt our enjoyment of the present. What might it be like to simply allow things to be as they are, without adding on or taking anything away? The name of this month’s session is inspired by a poem by Jane Hirshfield called, “‘A Carbon-Based Life Form'” (see below).

“A Carbon-Based Life Form”
By Jane Hirshfield
A person tired from happiness grows sober.
Another, worn through
by sadness, stumbles into a kind of joy.
It is like a dog alone in a house, barking to hear its own kind.
Nothing needs to be added. Yet we do.
