When there’s a lot of chaos and negativity, it makes sense to want to turn away, to fuzz it out. This can be okay, as long as we don’t get stuck in the habit. Building walls might keep the rain out, but we also won’t get to bask in the sunshine. Resilience isn’t just about tolerating discomfort, it’s also about increasing one’s tolerance for pleasure, pride, and peace. To interrupt the habit of undercutting joy.
Practice can be a place where we we plant seeds of joy and connection. It can be as small as taking an extra five minutes for savasana. Little things add up; a forest is made from millions of little seeds.
