Join me in-person for an 8-week session at Sport Manitoba starting Oct 29th!

We are starting back up in-person at Sport Manitoba Fitness Centre! These are 8-week yoga sessions that start Sunday October 29th.

There are two types of class to choose from; while each session will have different focuses, they will both have an emphasis on cultivating functional movement that supports our everyday living.

Space is pretty limited so sign up soon! There is a discount for folks who are already Fitness Centre members. Please see below for more details (note the start times are slightly different than the sessions we had in the spring).

YOGA FOR STRENGTH
Sundays Oct 29-Dec 17, 10:30-11:30 am

8-week session
$150 (non-members) / $130 (members)

This session will focus on building stability and endurance (mental / physical) through our yoga practice. When we rise up to challenge, we show ourselves our inner strength and learn how to be our own cheerleader. We build these “muscles” in our practice, so that when we step off the mat, we can show up in our lives feeling empowered and resilient.

What is a healthy dose of challenge? One that asks you to reach a little outside of your comfort zone, but not so much that you feel defeated. With that, I’ll offer modifications for postures so that you can find a version of the practice that suits you best.

YOGA FOR MOBILITY
Sundays Oct 29-Dec 17, 12:00-1:00 pm

8-week session
$150 (non-members) / $130 (members)

This session blends yoga and Functional Range Conditioning principles to maintain and improve range of motion in our joints. This is particularly important for aging bodies (i.e. all bodies), injury recovery, and simply feeling more at ease in our skin.

I offer options to dial up / down the intensity so that you can make the practice work for your needs. Sometimes taking a step back is the more challenging choice; sometimes taking baby steps is just the right fit. Learning to adjust the practice to suit you is a key component to self-stewardship.

If you have any questions, check out this list of FAQs, or feel free to send me a message here. If you want to contact Sport Manitoba directly, you can do so here.

October livestream yoga session – starts Oct 2nd

As we enter fall and the sun moves south, the nights grow longer. There is a natural grief as we lose the voluptuousness of summer. And yet, the long shadows of this season hold mystery and delight. Who knows what wisdom we can uncover when we peer into the darkness? Am I talking about one’s soul or seasonal change? Only one way to find out.

August livestream yoga session – starts August 7th

As we enter August, we might react to feeling the setting of summer’s sun. In anticipating the future, we can disrupt our enjoyment of the present. What might it be like to simply allow things to be as they are, without adding on or taking anything away? The name of this month’s session is inspired by a poem by Jane Hirshfield called, “‘A Carbon-Based Life Form'” (see below).

August livestream yoga

“A Carbon-Based Life Form”
By Jane Hirshfield

A person tired from happiness grows sober.

Another, worn through
by sadness, stumbles into a kind of joy.

It is like a dog alone in a house, barking to hear its own kind.

Nothing needs to be added. Yet we do.

Yoga – outdoors!

Join me for some yoga this summer – outside!

I am pleased to announce that Lululemon is sponsoring me to teach some complimentary yoga on Thursday evenings (6:45-7:30 pm) at Munson Park in Winnipeg, starting July 20th until August 31st.

Register here so in case there is a weather update, you’ll be notified ASAP.

As well, I will be teaching complimentary classes at Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre as part of their Wellness Wednesdays Summer Entertainment Series, sponsored by Manitoba Blue Cross! Join me on Wed Aug 2nd and 16th (6-7 pm).

The Hatha Yoga Pradipika says that we should practise yoga indoors in “a small room, situated in a solitary place” – but Winnipeg summers are short, and YOLO. This medieval yogic text also says that the room should be well plastered with cow-dung, so there’s that. On a more personal note, I will have a microphone while teaching outside, which means I don’t have to yell at you over the wind, which would be my teaching nightmare (and, how can I compete with the wind?!).

Looking forward to practising with you under the big prairie sky!
